About Us

Drayton Manor High School was opened in 1930 as a county grammar school and following the reorganisation of schools in the Borough of Ealing it received its first comprehensive intake in 1975.

The school became grant maintained in 1992 and following changes in legislation became a foundation school in 1998. The school was awarded Beacon Status in July 2000 and won the School Achievement Award for Excellence for three consecutive years.

In July 2003 the school became a Leading Edge school. In 2004 our Head, Sir Pritpal Singh, was recognised as the Headteacher of the Year for London. In February 2004, the school was named in the Chief Inspector’s Report to Parliament as an outstanding school.
In June 2005, our Head, Sir Pritpal Singh was knighted in the Queen’s birthday Honours for services to education.

Drayton Manor High School is a mixed 11-19 comprehensive school. There are 1561 students on roll with over 367 in the Sixth Form.

Since 1994 the number of applications for admission to the school has increased from 450 to over 1500 for the 240 places available in Year 7.

The background of students is diverse and representative of a comprehensive intake. Nearly 26% of our students are eligible for free school meals and this places Drayton Manor in Table 5 of the National Bench Marks. Over 25% of students are on the SEN register and currently 26 have statements, which is below the national average. Overall the proportion of white students and students from ethnic minorities is similar. Twenty-six percent of students are from homes where English is not the first language and where Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi and Gujerati are the main languages. The number of languages spoken is over 40. About 47% of the school is girls and 53% boys.
